About Creative Commons & Design Attribution

At Gravewater Alchemy, creativity is both a craft and a collaboration. Some designs and structural elements used in our work are adapted from openly shared creations made available through Creative Commons licenses.

Creative Commons (often abbreviated as CC) is a nonprofit organization that provides standardized licenses creators can use to share their work with the public. These licenses clearly outline how a design may be used, modified, and shared — including whether commercial use is permitted and whether attribution is required.

In simple terms, Creative Commons licenses allow artists and makers to say:

“You may use this.”

“You may adapt this.”

“Here are the conditions.”

When a design we use requires attribution, we honor that request fully and transparently.

How to Read Creative Commons Licenses

Each Creative Commons license includes specific permissions and conditions. Below are the most common elements you may see referenced in our attributions:

BY (Attribution)
Credit must be given to the original creator.

SA (ShareAlike)
Adapted works must be shared under the same license terms.

NC (NonCommercial)
The work may not be used for commercial purposes.

ND (NoDerivatives)
The work may not be modified.

Only designs that explicitly allow commercial use are incorporated into products offered for sale by Gravewater Alchemy.

Our Commitment to Ethical Making

When Creative Commons–licensed elements are used:

Original creators are clearly credited

License terms are fully respected

Any modifications or adaptations are disclosed

Attribution is not just a legal requirement — it is a gesture of respect toward the artists and designers whose generosity helps keep creative communities thriving.

The entries below provide detailed attribution information for applicable designs, including the original creator, source, license type, and notes on how the work was adapted.

Licensed Designs & Commercial Use

In addition to Creative Commons–licensed works, some designs used by Gravewater Alchemy are incorporated under direct commercial licenses purchased from individual creators.

When a design is licensed directly:

Permission for commercial use is explicitly granted by the creator

Usage terms are defined through a paid or written agreement

Attribution may or may not be required, depending on the license terms

In these cases, the creator has chosen to license their work privately rather than through a public Creative Commons license. This allows artists to retain greater control over how their designs are used while still supporting ethical collaboration.

To respect creator privacy and contractual agreements, full license documents are not publicly displayed. However, all licensed designs are used in accordance with their agreed terms, including any attribution requirements specified by the creator.
